| Mission and Goals |
The main goal of the
"Datasim Press Forums" is to bring existing Datasim
customers in contact with each other. WNS can be viewed as a 'virtual'
meeting place |
where software analysts, designers,
architects and developers can exchange information relating to
the software development lifecycle. |
 |
 |
 |
| Membership and Policy |
|
The forum is open to everyone free of charge. In order to
join you must however, enter your name and a valid e-mail
address. Naturally, we assume that you have joined in order
to add to the knowledge base in the forum and that you are
not out to disseminate false information to others.
| The forum is completely
sponsored by the Datasim organization. The forum will focus
on generic problems, models and software development issues.
This is not a forum for 'turf wars' or tribal battles.
The forum may no be used for marketing or sales.

| The Forums |
The Datasim Press forum is a
system for business and IT professionals. In particular, we
wish to provide an environment where the complete software lifecycle
can be supported. For this reason, we have initially created
forums based on the following stages in the lifecycle:
- Business processes and business modeling (BMP)
- Requirements and domain categories/architectures (RDA)
- Object-Oriented Analysis, Component Oriented Analysis
and UML (OOA)
- Design Patterns and object-oriented languages (OOD)
- Agent Technology (ATE)
- Technical and Financial Application Areas (APP)
|
In general, we attempt to adopt
and adapt standard tools, methods and techniques whenever possible.
In particular, modern analysis and design techniques such as
domain architectures, UML, design patterns, C++,COM and Java
will be favoured to others. For example, the forum is not a
newsgroup for the following tools: Cobol, relational database
theory, NIAM or Yourdon. WNS is focused on state of the art
concepts and tools. |

| Business Processes
and Business Modeling |
| This forum is for domain experts,
business modelers and IT professionals who are responsible for
high-level domain and business modeling in organizations. Possible
threads in this forum are: |
- Discovering and documenting business goals and processes
- Tools and techniques for business modeling
- Integration of business processes with domain categories

 |
| Requirements and Domain
Categories/Architectures |
| This forum is for those personnel
who are responsible for requirements capture, requirements documentation
and system architecture in organizations. Possible threads in
this forum are: |
- Techniques for requirements capture
- Use cases and requirements. Experiences with use cases
- Domain categories experience reports (Datasim Development
Process ™)
- Integrating behaviour and structure Mapping requirements
to UML

| Object-Oriented
Analysis, Component Oriented Analysis™ and UML |
This forum is for those personnel
who are responsible for analyzing applications using object-oriented
and component technologies. The Unified Modeling Language (UML)
will be the common 'language' or communication medium in this
forum. We identity two main themes:
- Object Oriented Analysis (OOA)
- Component Oriented Analysis (COA)
|
Possible threads in this forum are:
- Creating understandable and maintainable UML models
- Are objects suitable for large projects?
- What is a component?
- Comparing objects and components for analysis
- Analysis products and documentation

 |
| Design
Patterns and Object-Oriented Languages |
This forum is for those personnel
who are responsible for the mapping of the products of OOA and
COA to design blueprints. These blueprints will be implemented
in modern languages such as C++, Java and C#. We identify several
main themes:
- Large scale system patterns (see Buschmann's book)
- Design patterns (see Gamma's book)
- Concurrent and network patterns (see Doug Schmidt's new
book)
|
Possible threads in this forum
are:
- How to effectively apply and implement patterns
- High-level and low-level patterns
- Implementing patterns in C++, Java and C#
- Guidelines (when and when not to use patterns)

| Agent Technology
|
| This is a forum for anyone who
is interested in agent technology. It is predicted that agents
will extend objects in the future as the standard computing
metaphor (for more information see www.auml.org).
Possible threads in this forum are: |
- Overview of what agent technology is
- Application areas
- Agent toolkits
- Agent oriented programming (AOP)
- Agents as 'clever' objects

 |
| Application Areas |
This forum is for those personnel
who are responsible for implementing real applications in real
environments. Emphasis will be placed on domain knowledge and
the forum serves as a meeting place for customers, end-users
and software developers in the following application areas:
-Management information systems
-Web-based management systems (and not just Web design)
-Process control and real-time systems
-CAD, graphics and visualisation Production systems (e.g. cement,
industrial)
-Modelling of financial products and risk management
|
Possible threads in this forum
are:
- Integrating application knowledge with software knowledge
- Creating reusable designs and code for application domains
- User experiences
